Crochet Camper says hello

Greetings!

There are many ways to say hello and introduce ones self.   I think it's important to understand basic highlights of my story without going into all the specific details.   I say this but really my life is an open book of many colorful pages.  If you have a question, please ask!

It has been a dream of mine to live a simple life since I ventured out on my own as a teenager.  I have the heart of a nomad, although I spend most of my time in the same area.  It's a lot harder to be a nomad than one would think while still earning a living.   I traveled in my youth, then became a mom and grew some roots.   Sometime in the middle of all that, I survived cancer, became a nurse, broke my back, survived cancer a second time and my son grew up and moved out on his own.  Needless to say, I experienced some things that pushed me into pursing my dreams.

2018 was one of the more eventful years for me.  That's the year I was finishing my master degree, getting married, broke my back and had cancer for a second time.   My now husband and I had been to many RV shows looking at different models and seeing what we liked.   By 2019 I had recovered and we went to our 3rd, maybe 4th RV show.   The whole week before, I kept telling him we would be buying an RV this weekend.  He would laugh, and say no or probably not.  I just knew in my heart that it was time.   We aren't getting any younger, why wait?

That weekend, we found our home.   We had narrowed it down to two different models, on opposite ends of the showroom.   We started walking back and forth to compare the two.  We'd sit on the couches, open the cabinets, stand in the shower, all to see how we'd "fit."   We applied for the loan that very day.  By the end of March we signed our papers and arranged for delivery on April 15th.  We had a lot of work to do!

At the time we were living in a very old farm house and had accumulated a lot.  I tried many different methods of finding homes for all our belongings.  Selling items turned out to be time consuming.   My son was moving into a house and was able to take many kitchen items and some couches.  Ultimately, the easiest thing to do was give it all to a shelter.   They brought out a truck and cleaned the rest of the house out.  We were ready to move!

4 months into full time living

We had many reasons for doing this.  The biggest reason was to free ourselves from the every day, open ourselves up to opportunities and most importantly to own less and live more!   Our goals revolve around experiences.  We do not need a lot of space or items, just more time and freedom.

Fast forward to today and we have now been living the simple life for over a year.    We couldn't be happier.   The past few months has been interesting as it has been for everyone at this crazy time.   We have found we love each other more, and are even happier than when we first started this adventure.

But wait?  I thought this was about crochet?   It is, but it's also about everything that I love.   To back up a bit, in the house, I had a huge craft room.  I sewed, made jewelry, painted, and more.   The one thing I couldn't give up was my yarn.    Ask my husband, I had 7 tubs of it.   I crochet a lot.  This was a skill I had been taught by my grandmother at age 8.  Now grandma just knew the basics, but that's all I needed.   It's not something I have done all my life, but it's been the most consistent one.   I love learning new patterns and different techniques.   Watching YouTube has been a blessing.

This is where this blog comes in, and the Facebook page.  There's only so much a person can own living in an RV.   I have so much crochet that eventually some of it has to go.   I decided that I don't want to give up crochet, but I will have to give up some finished pieces.  Why not try to sell them?  Thus, The Crochet Camper was born.   Will anything sell?  Maybe.  If it doesn't then I'll have more of my art to wear.   If it does, great!  Then I can make more!

Who knows how this will evolve.   Only time will tell.   In the meantime, check out my Facebook page for any items I post for sale.   I will upload items as they are made.  The Crochet Camper

Take care of yourself, be kind, and keep hookin!
