No amount of yarn is too much yarn.

If you know anyone who does any type of fiber craft, you know what their hobby really is, YARN HOARDING.    When we lived in the farm house, I had my own craft room full of goodies.  Sewing, stained glass, beads, paint, and so much more.   I could have filled the camper with the amount of crafting materials I owned.   It all went to a local church, except one thing.  The yarn.   I couldn't part with it.

Yep, I'm all about that fiber.   I like to pet it.  I like to squish it.  Not to mention if it has some type of flashiness to it.  The color combinations are endless and the fiber content varies.  What the yarn is made from will greatly impact how you care for your finished item, but that's a whole other conversation.  For now, we are talking about hoarding or yarn stashes.   More importantly, where do you keep yarn in an RV?   The answer is everywhere.

Now I'm going to show you some scary pictures.  At least I think they are scary.  Because my yarn was just shoved everywhere.   If there's an open spot, there's going to be yarn.

I told you it wasn't going to be pretty.  This isn't remotely convenient.  I need a better place to store my yarn so that I can go through it and choose what to make next.   Under normal circumstances, I would pull everything out and reorganize that area.  As you can see, it doesn't really fit and it's messy.   I also want to stock up on yarn for my people.   The lovely yarn you see on the top shelf is hand dyed from Pixie Hollow Yarn (the precious.)  I love using it and do plan on featuring products made from the deliciousness.  You really should check out her yarn by clicking here.  It is highly addictive!   (Click The Crochet Camper for current listing.)

The other day I went to the store to stock up on "over the counter" yarn, as I call it.

Some of this is for custom orders and some I just bought because it's yarn and I envision what it could be.  Now I'm thinking, where the heck am I going to put this?  My thoughts were, I could downsize my wardrobe more.   I know that seems crazy considering I don't own a lot to begin with.

I started with pulling out every piece of clothing I own.  Anything I haven't worn in the last year, got donated.   3 bags later and I've downsized.  Wow, I have more room.   I then reorganized and put all my off season clothing in storage under the bed.   The items originally under the bed also got downsized into space bags (I love those things)  I was able to clear out a closet for most of my yarn.

WOW, major improvement.  I also feel there is room to grow with potentially taller shelves or even something hanging.   All my precious  Pixie Hollow Yarn is stored in the colored bins protected from dust.   I even have it sorted by weight and color.  If I had more room, it would also be by fiber content.  I'm quite happy with how it turned out.  Now I can expand what I am doing a little more, and don't have to go to the store quite as often.

As you can see, having a hobby in an RV is totally manageable as long as you are willing to compromise.  Stay passionate about what you love, and keep hookin!

  1. I love it! I love you considered my yarn so special too! You can never have enough yarn. It doesn’t go bad and the convenience of having it all on hand if you want to make something new and not having to order online and wait or run to the store and hope they have enough in stock is worth it!

    1. PHY is special on many levels. I would go into detail but it will spoil a future post of mine if I give too much detail!
